In good years, alfalfa can yield several cuts, resulting in plentiful fodder production. Its symbiosis with nodule-forming bacteria transforms atmospheric nitrogen into plant-available forms of the element, meaning that no fertiliser is needed and the nitrogen remains available for subsequent crops.
