SLOVENA

Common vetch – Vicia sativa

The common vetch SLOVENA is one of the most important legumes in agriculture and is mainly used for green manuring, as a forage crop, and in mixed cropping systems. It is very vigorous and covers the soil quickly after sowing. When grown in mixtures with field peas and field beans, it provides a protein-rich forage that is well suited for fresh feeding or silage. Thanks to its rapid early development and high leaf proportion, the soil is quickly greened and weeds are effectively suppressed. As a rotation-neutral crop, common vetch fits very well into sugar beet crop rotations and reliably winterkills. It prefers lighter soils and is relatively reliable even under dry conditions.
