Three Careers with a Future – Applications for 2027 Now Open

From 1 August 2027, we will be training apprentices in three professions at our Krefeld site: Plant Technologist, Warehouse Logistics Specialist, and Wholesale and Foreign Trade Management Assistant (all m/f/d). We are accepting applications now.

Good seed does not happen by itself. Before a mixture reaches your arable land, your grassland or your wildflower strip, it passes through many hands: it is tested, stored, picked, sold and dispatched. As an owner-managed family business now in its third generation, we have stood for quality and reliability for more than 75 years. Today our range comprises over 5,000 products, and we move around 60,000 tonnes of seed every year.

To keep it that way, we need well-trained young talent. The agricultural sector is short of skilled workers everywhere – on farms as well as in the upstream and downstream industries. We want to play our part and give young people a sound start in the green sector.

Plant Technologist (m/f/d): a rare profession with plenty of science

Plant Technologist (German: Pflanzentechnologe/in) is one of the smallest apprenticeship occupations in the green sector: there are only around 50 training places in the whole of Germany – and one of them is with us in Krefeld. Plant technologists work at the interface of crop production, plant breeding and the laboratory. They set up trials, look after plants in the greenhouse and in the field, take samples, analyse data and document results.

For a seed company, this is essential: varietal characteristics, seed quality and the performance of mixtures must be observed and measured reliably. Anyone who learns this profession will understand in great detail what is inside a seed and how it grows into a high-performing crop.

We are looking for young people who are enthusiastic about plant biology and agriculture and who enjoy experimenting. We also value an independent, structured way of working, good IT skills (MS Office), reliability and team spirit. A category B driving licence is an advantage.

Detailed information on the occupation (in German) is available from the German Plant Breeders' Association (BDP): die-pflanzenzuechter.de

Warehouse Logistics Specialist (m/f/d): making sure seed arrives on time

Seed is a seasonal product. When sowing time comes, every batch has to be in the right place at the right time – whether in sacks or big bags. Our warehouse logistics specialists (German: Fachkraft für Lagerlogistik) make that happen. They receive and inspect goods, store them correctly, pick orders and prepare consignments for dispatch.

There is more to it than moving pallets. Seed places particular demands on storage conditions and on the traceability of every batch. Modern computer-based warehouse management is therefore as much part of everyday work as the safe handling of industrial trucks.

For this apprenticeship, we are looking for technical understanding, good spatial awareness and coordination skills. In addition, you should bring motivation, reliability, an organised way of working and IT skills (MS Office). A category B driving licence is an advantage.

Wholesale and Foreign Trade Management Assistant (m/f/d): seed trading at home and abroad

We source seed from many countries and supply customers in Germany and abroad. Our wholesale and foreign trade management assistants (German: Kaufmann/-frau für Groß- und Außenhandelsmanagement) keep these flows of goods together. They calculate prices, handle enquiries and orders, look after customers and suppliers, and support purchasing and sales right through to invoicing.

Foreign trade adds topics such as delivery terms, export documentation and foreign languages. At the same time, our apprentices get to know the agricultural sector from the commercial side – and with it the needs of farmers, agricultural contractors and trading partners.

Applicants should bring an interest in business and international affairs, good IT skills (MS Office), a willingness to learn, reliability and a structured way of working. A category B driving licence is an advantage.

What we offer our apprentices

Whatever the profession, our apprentices can expect high-quality training in a friendly and committed team. The work is varied, and the commercial and logistics apprenticeships offer extensive insights into different areas of the company. On top of that, we offer an attractive training allowance, opportunities for further training and good prospects of being taken on.

A note for chambers of agriculture, vocational schools and training farms: many young people have never heard of the Plant Technologist profession. If you know pupils with an interest in plants, farming or agricultural trade, we would be delighted if you passed these vacancies on. Young people from farming families looking for a career connected to agriculture are also very welcome with us.
